Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity.

Acceleration is a vector quantity and therefore has a direction as well as magnitude.

A body in free fall under the effect of the Earth's gravitational field has constant acceleration which is called g and is about 10 m/s2. See terminal velocity for more information on this.

$Acceleration=\frac{changeinvelocity}{changeintime}$ or $Acceleration=\frac{changeinspeed}{changeintime}$

For example, if a car was moving at 10m/s and 5 seconds later was moving at 20m/s the acceleration is 2m/s2.
