An electromagnet is a magnet where the magnetic field is produced by the flow of electric current. When the current is turned off, the magnetic field will disappear. Usually, an electromagnet is a solenoid inside which a soft iron core is placed. This core greatly increases the strength of the magnet.

Increasing the strength of an electromagnetEdit

  • Increasing the current flowing through the wire
  • Increase the number of coils around the soft iron core.
