The imperfect tense in Latin is usually translated as 'I was eating', however it can also be translated as 'I used to eat', 'I kept eating' and many others - it is used for ongoing actions in the past. Remember not to confuse this with the perfect tense. The stem is the same as in the present tense - by removing '-re' from the infinitive. The endings are as follows:

  • stem+bam (I)
  • stem+bas (you s)
  • stem+bat (he/she/it)
  • stem+bamus (we)
  • stem+batis (you pl.)
  • stem+bant (they)
