Simplified electric motor

A motor converts electrical energy into kinetic energy. It does this with the use of the motor effect which allows, with the use of magnets, a current being passed through a coil to produce a force which drives the coil round. For this to work it uses a split ring commutator which stops the current flow when the wire is horizontal, allowing the mometum to carry it round, and then reverses the direction of the current when the brushes connect with the other half of the split ring.
